Detroit Early Middle College (DEMC) is making waves across the city. During a recent feature on 105.9 KISS FM with Mason and Angie Star, our CEO, Lawrence Hood, shared how DEMC is redefining what’s possible for Detroit students. As the city’s first standalone Early Middle College, DEMC will give scholars the opportunity to earn college credits, industry credentials, and real-world experience, before they even graduate high school. This isn’t just a new school, it’s a transformative model designed to break generational barriers and accelerate students toward college, career, and lifelong success. Detroit is ready, and DEMC is leading the way.

At DEMC, we aren't just offering classes; we are reimagining education by providing a debt-free path to both a high school diploma and a college degree. Meet the heart of Detroit Early Middle College High School - our principal, Krystal Thomas. Principal Thomas was recently selected in delivering the opening remarks at the Michigan's Charter Schools conference. She is proving that her commitment to excellence reaches far beyond the classroom.

The Skillman Foundation sat down with down with our very own CEO, Lawrence and Dr. Nikolai Vitti, who runs the largest school district in the state, Detroit Public Schools Community District. Together, they share changes schools can make to better support students, what schools can’t do alone, and who must help.
